Intended purpose
Cervical traction tongs are intended for use by orthopaedic surgeons and neurosurgeons to apply skeletal traction to the cervical spine for reduction of cervical fractures and dislocations. The pins of the tongs are applied to the outer table of the skull of patients with cervical spine injuries. The tongs apply force to the outer skull table and transmit traction through the cervical spine. Specific traction weights are prescribed per clinical protocol for cervical injury management.
