Intended purpose
Lebsche sternal chisel is intended for use by thoracic surgeons to cut through the sternum during median sternotomy. The chisel is applied to sternal bone within the thoracic operative field. The chisel is driven by a mallet to divide the sternum along the midline during median sternotomy. The device is reusable and requires validated decontamination and sterilisation between uses.
