Intended purpose
Finocchietto rib spreader is intended for use by thoracic surgeons to retract and maintain separation of the ribs during open thoracotomy, providing operative access to intrathoracic structures. The retractor is applied to the rib margins and intercostal soft tissue. The ratchet mechanism maintains rib separation at a consistent force throughout the thoracotomy procedure. The device is reusable and requires validated decontamination and sterilisation between uses.
