Intended purpose
Costotome/rachitome is intended for use by thoracic and orthopaedic surgeons to cut through ribs and costal cartilage during thoracic surgical and chest-wall procedures. The instrument is applied to costal tissue within the operative surgical field. The compound action lever design provides sufficient force to section costal bone and cartilage in a single controlled motion. The device is reusable and requires validated decontamination and sterilisation between uses.
