Intended purpose
Hegar uterine dilator is intended for use by gynaecologists to progressively dilate the uterine cervical canal prior to intrauterine procedures including curettage, biopsy, or intrauterine device insertion. The instrument is introduced through the external cervical os into the uterine cervical canal of female patients. Dilators are used in a graduated series, advancing progressively in size to achieve the required degree of cervical dilatation. The device is reusable and requires validated decontamination and sterilisation between uses.
