Intended purpose
Bailey rib contractor is intended for use by thoracic surgeons to approximate rib margins during closure of thoracotomy incisions. The contractor is applied to the rib margins within the thoracic operative field. The mechanism draws the rib margins together and maintains the closure force during thoracotomy wound closure. The device is reusable and requires validated decontamination and sterilisation between uses.
