Intended purpose
Sponge holding forceps are intended for use by surgeons and scrub nurses to hold gauze sponges and swabs for wound preparation, cleansing, haemostasis, and packing during open surgical procedures. The forceps are applied to gauze and swab materials within the operative field. The ring jaw design provides secure sponge retention without cutting or tearing the gauze fibres. The device is reusable and requires validated decontamination and sterilisation between uses.
